Stained Glass
Years ago, I signed up for an evening class on stained glass. My son wanted to do a cooking class and I looked for something to do at the same time. This was the only course that vaguely appealed to me, so along I went for two hours every Tuesday evening for a term. To my surprise, I loved it. The teacher was very patient and took us along step by step. Because it was a beginner class, all materials were provided, which meant that I did not carry on.
However, after Tom died, my thoughtful daughter remembered that I had enjoyed it and sent me a beginner kit from a Stained Glass company. It was so long since my class, that I needed a refresher, and off I went to a day workshop where I made a lovely butterfly.
Full of enthusiasm, I decided to try making some simple Christmas tree decorations at home. They did not turn out very well and I realised that I would have to find a regular class where I would have a tutor to help me. It took a while to find something nearby, but find one I did, and, until lockdown, I have been attending the class for about three years. It wasn’t easy going to a class where I didn’t know anyone and where my skills were limited, but the others in the class were very friendly and very willing to help.
The tutor is great, but I learn almost as much from the others in the class. Going to class gives me the motivation I need to complete a project. There is company and, if one is going through a low patch, one can simply have a coffee/tea and watch what the others are doing. I thoroughly recommend attending a class. There are a great many to choose from and they are a great way to meet like minded people.
